At an international conference organised by the British Council in Cairo to promote excellence in employment training in the Middle East and Africa, Sharjah Institute of Technology has won a British Council award for best practice in the Skills for Employability Project.

The inaugural British Council award was awarded to the project for the most outstanding skills partnership between the UK and the countries of the Middle East and North Africa.

Sharjah Institute of Technology Assistant Director Ms. Hanadi Al Suwaidi and External Relations Manager Ms. Reham Mustafa collected the award at the 'Bringing the Learning Home' event in Cairo.

The project was delivered in collaboration between Sharjah Institute of Technology, Pembrokeshire College, and Coleg Gwent. Its aim was to create a wide range of opportunities and new directions in the Sharjah Institute of Technology by establishing close working relationships and the transfer of best practice between the institutions. During the course of the project SIT has made significant ties with local employers through rebranding SIT services to local employers and industry in general.

Speaking from Cairo, Ms. Reham said: 'It is an honour to receive this award in recognition of our work. Winning this award will raise the profile of this sort of collaboration and increase links with local employers. We must thank The British Council for their outstanding efforts in their initiatives to promote the importance of Employability skills.
